• 100% Coverage: Every square millimeter of the patch is covered in thread.
  For the Milpitas referee patches, we utilized 100% coverage. This creates a thicker, more substantial feel and a “sheen” that only high-quality thread can provide. It ensures that the black background isn’t just a piece of fabric, but a dense field of stitches that reinforces the entire structure of the emblem.

2. The 3-Color High-Contrast Palette

• The Benefit: It prevents fraying and gives the patch a classic, “raised” look.
• The Alternative: A “Heat-Cut” or “Laser-Cut” border is used for complex shapes (like a jagged lightning bolt), but for a 3-inch round patch, the Merrowed edge is the gold standard for a professional, uniform appearance.

4. Plain Backing for Permanent Application

While we offer iron-on (heat-seal), Hook and Loop, and adhesive backings, Milpitas PAL opted for a Plain Backing. This is the preferred choice for items that will be sewn directly onto garments. A sewn-on patch is the most permanent method of attachment, capable of withstanding the rigors of an active soccer season and repeated trips through a heavy-duty washing machine.
