Political News
The trials and tribulations for the creation of lapel pins are sometimes abominable. Such was the case of Virginia’s Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (Republican), who wanted to give his employees a “unique” offering.
Rather then exploit the states’ official seal, which is a depiction of a Roman goddess exposing a left breast, Mr. Cuccinelli designed a lapel pin with the conqueror’s chest covered. Even though the seal dating back to 1776 is far more risqué than the replica on the lapel pin that the attorney general developed for his staff, the unnecessary censorship triggered ridicule from opposing parties, and the media.
Trivia
What commonality does the domain / hosting company NASCAR and Star Wars share?
Both have had a lapel pin designed to promote a cause. For example, last year, the Seattle ARea Lucasfilm Artifact Collectors Club (SARLACC), created its first collectible lapel pin, which was an illustration of the Millennium Falcon flying in to land at the world famous Seattle Space Needle.
These days, NASCAR’s promotional cause is for the betterment of children’s lives. The proceeds from their $5 lapel pins, which are collectors memorabilia, benefit underprivileged children.
